Maps of Kauai and Kapaa, and Hawaii
HAWAII:
Hawaii has 8 principle islands, that make up the state of Hawaii (Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai, Kauai and Niihau.) The outstanding features of Hawaii's climate include mild temperatures throughout the year, moderate humidity, persistence of northeasterly trade winds, and significant differences in rainfall within short distances. Hawaii is in the tropics, and therefore the length of day and temperature are relatively uniform throughout the year.
Hawaii's mountains significantly influence every aspect of its weather and climate. The endless variety of peaks, valleys, ridges, and broad slopes, gives Hawaii a climate that is different from the surrounding ocean, as well as a climatic variety within the islands. These climatic differences would not exist if the islands were flat and the same size.
KAUAI:
Kauai is one of those main Hawaiian islands, and farthest north. It is roughly circular in shape, about 540 square miles, and was formed about 6 million years ago. Simply put, it is beautiful and unspoiled, unlike other more 'metropolitan' areas of Hawaii. Only about 3% of the land is utilized for commercial and residential use, focused around the coastline. The interior of Kauai is almost untouched, with spectacular views throughout the island and plenty to do.
Kauai has incredible weather year-round; mid-70s-80s, slightly warmer in the summer, and nice breezes daily. Rainfall ususally comes in the evening and early morning hours.
Kauai is unique from the other islands in many ways, including:
- - There is a limit to how high buildings can be built, creating an unspoiled view wherever you go
- - There are river tours as well as a host of other activities
- - 4 of the top 10 golf course are found here
- Lawai is home to the National Tropical Botanical Garden
KAPAA:
Kauai county, on the east-central coast of Kauai, is just heaven. With a touch of mystigue, the region of Kapaa is connected with the Sleeping Giant (named because of it's shape like a sleeping man) a mountain formation a few miles south of Kapaa.
Kapaa is located between Anahola and Wailua, along Highway 56. Nearby, there is the Konohiki Stream near Waipouli, Opaekaa Falls, and the Nonou Forest Reserve. A variety of activities can be found in Kapaa, including hiking, sailing, golf, biking, wind surfing, diving, and snorkeling.
There are endless points of interest, but some of the more popular ones are Haiku Gardens, He'eia State Park and Kaneohe Beach Park.
